The Ultimate Fabric Walls System for Home Cinemas and Media Rooms

The Ultimate Fabric Walls System for Home Cinemas and Media Rooms

Fabric wall panels serve both aesthetic and practical purposes in home cinemas and media rooms. You can use acoustically transparent fabric walls to hide speakers, cabling, and other equipment, creating a clean, stylish look. You can also place treatments behind the fabric to address the 3Rs of acoustics: Resonance, Reverberation and Reflection.

Why Install Fabric Walls?

Aesthetics and design

  • Fabric walls create a cinematic look: Installing them creates a luxurious, highly customisable appearance.
  • Hides imperfections: They can be used to cover unwanted features or to conceal unsightly equipment like wiring and acoustic treatments.
  • Customisable finish: The fabric can be installed floor-to-ceiling or in panels, with a wide range of colours and texture options to match the room's design.

Installation and versatility

Reduces finishing work: Fabric wall systems can provide a finished look, minimising the need for plasterers or decorators.

  • Adaptable to space: Fabric wall systems are versatile and can be customised to fit a range of room shapes and sizes, from large dedicated cinemas to smaller media rooms.
  • Shallow depth: Fabric wall systems can be as shallow as 35mm, maximising usable room dimensions. A wide range of brackets supports wall mount depths up to 200mm.

Acoustic performance

  • Fabric walls are acoustically transparent: In cinema and media room projects, acoustically transparent fabrics minimise insertion loss.
  • Fabric walls disguise acoustic treatment: Acoustic treatment yields more transparent dialogue, more accurate sound effects, and deeper bass, without increasing overall volume.
  • Fabric walls hide speakers: Acoustically transparent fabric allows speakers to be concealed behind the panels, maintaining a clean look without affecting clarity or performance.

  • Quick and clean installation: Pre-built metal frames and pre-cut fabric panels eliminate the need for cutting and on-site construction. Anyone with basic DIY equipment and skills can complete the installation.
  • Scalable system: Every option is covered, from a basic rectangular panel to a complete room solution with integrated lighting.

What is the Fabric Walls system?

The Fabric Walls System is an engineered solution that enables quick, easy installation of stretch fabric on walls and ceilings. The system uses factory-prepared metal frames and CNC-cut fabric panels. These deliver an exceptional finish while significantly reducing the installation time.

Here's an example of one of our Fabric Walls frames:

How is the fabric fitted?

Each section of fabric is machine-cut to match the size of each panel perfectly. A stitched-on, flexible yet robust silicone edge enables push-to-fit install using only your hands - no tuck tools needed.

You no longer need to cut fabric on-site or use a tucking tool to force it into a track. It also means that removing a fabric panel is equally straightforward, should it be necessary for maintenance or other improvements to your home cinema system.

Key advantages of the Fabric Walls system

The Fabric Walls system offers many benefits over a traditional plastic track-based alternative:

  1. No specialist tucking tools are required. Fabric panels come complete with flexible, hard-wearing silicone edges.
  2. Supplied with a straightforward layout guide for easy installation by anyone with basic DIY skills.
  3. Fabric panels are easy to remove for maintenance or replacement. Simply pull the fabric panel from the metal frame to reveal the wall behind.
  4. Frame assembly and push-fit fabric installation each take only a few minutes. The Fabric Walls system is much quicker and simpler to install than alternatives.
  5. Our aluminium frames are an extremely lightweight solution compared to timber batten structures used with plastic track systems.
  6. No need to timber-batten the room, saving both time and money.
  7. Fabric is factory-prepared for the frame, providing a perfect fit and optimal tension.
  8. Standard fabrics are acoustically transparent. Our in-house test facility allows us to verify the performance of other fabrics.

Who can install a Fabric Walls system?

Anyone with basic DIY skills can install a Fabric Walls System. The assembly and mounting of the frames require only standard tools, and fabric installation is completely tool-free.

Installation of a Fabric Walls system will require:

  • Allen keys
  • Spirit level
  • Screwdriver
  • Drill

Depending on the surface you're mounting the system to, you will need to consider the screws and fixings that are most appropriate. If you can assemble an IKEA flat-pack, you can install a Fabric Walls system!

RAL-coloured frames to complement or contrast fabrics

RAL colour is a standardised colour-matching system used across many industries, including architecture, automotive, and construction. We can colour-match your frames to any RAL colour code, allowing maximum creativity when designing your Fabric Walls system.

Pre-drilled through frame mounting holes

If you need the shallowest possible depth, we can pre-drill holes in your Fabric Wall frames for direct wall mounting.

Bespoke mounting brackets

The FWM-32 frame can be mounted on brackets, increasing the space between the fabric panel and the wall behind, ideal for hiding on-wall speakers. We can supply mounting brackets up to 200mm deep to support a wide range of requirements.

Testing Acoustic Transparency

At SRND Group, we take objective performance seriously. We have a dedicated test lab at our facility, which enables us to test the insertion loss of fabrics. Insertion loss is the reduction in signal power that occurs when fabric is placed between the speaker and listener.

Fabric Walls - acoustically-transparent interior finishes

At SRND, we work closely with architects, designers and installers. Over the years, we've seen a dramatic increase in the call for fabric walls across a wide range of projects. Fabric walls are no longer found only in commercial cinemas. They're becoming standard for home cinemas too.
